~travel case for essential oil bottles~

 I LOVE essential oils.
I mean.....I really LOVE LOVE LOVE them.
Since I started using them I have been wanting
a little bag to store them in for travel.
My normal storage case is too big to take when I travel.
I've been wanting a little bag that will fit
just a few oils and be compact enough to fit in a
small bag or purse. This is what I came up with:

I sewed elastic strips to the lining before sewing the
lining and the shell together. The elastic strips are
tight enough to hold both sizes of bottles. It's also
big enough to hold my usage guide and empty capsules.
It unzips and lays flat, revealing all the goodness inside :)
I ended up putting a piece of felt in between the bottles
when I zip it up so they aren't banging on each other.

Can't wait for a reason to use this now.....
hmmmmm.....
Vegas anyone?

~handmade purses and such~

One of the first things I ever recall sewing
was a purse. I think I was about 4 or 5 years old
and I took a scrap of fabric from my Mom's
sewing stash, folded it in half, hand stitched
up the sides and tied a handle to holes on each side.
It was very primitive as far as purses go
but for a small kid I suppose it was alright.

Since then I've made lots of purses.
To me, purses are fun to make because

A-you can make them as easy or difficult
as you want to.
B-you can use virtually any type of fabric
to do so.
C-they are usually pretty quick to whip up.
and
D-I love purses!

Here's a few purses I've made over the years.
I've posted them on here before but for
those new readers of mine I thought I'd
re post pics of them. Plus...I've got
purses on the mind :)
Thinking of making another one.
Click on any of the pictures to be redirected
to the individual post about each one.
The zipper purse I made for my little lady :)
SUPER EASY!
The Nook storage pouch I made for my adorable cousin.
Clutch purse made from an old Elton John T-shirt....
I use this purse a lot when I go out.
Clutch I made from a personalized t-shirt for
Jolie's 40th b-day. One of my favorites!
I spent a lot of time making sure everything
was just right on this.
The child's duffel bag I made for my little guy.
Not one of my best and I even used a pattern on this :(
He loves it anyway....it's seen a lot of miles.
The coupon/shopping organizer I made for
my friend, Monika. Recognize the fabric?
I had some of this left over and made the nook
cover for my cousin too.

I didn't realize there would be so many until
I got knee deep into this post.
I can think of a blue hobo bag I made years
and years ago for a certain bachelorette party
weekend in Cancun....do you remember that Jolie?
I gotta find that and take pics of it.
I wonder if it's as cute as I thought it was.

Hope you've enjoyed the stroll down
memory lane :)

~zipper purse~

My little lady loves purses and she loves zippers.
What better gift for her than a purse
made solely out of zippers?
I whipped it up the other night.
Literally, in like 20 minutes.

Before I show you the pics let me explain the
colors. YES...I would have preferred to
do this with a combo of pink, red and orange
zippers BUT I didn't want to spend
much $$$ on this. My husband found
20 zippers on e-bay for a couple bucks-
not the most beautiful colors-but hey...
for that kind of money you can't be too picky right?

See-I wasn't exaggerating about the colors.
Anywho...this was so simple.
Just lay out your zippers and overlap each one
by about a 1/4".  You'll also want to alternate
the direction of the ends of the zippers when
you lay these out. It makes it a whole lot
easier to sew together and it's not as bulky.
I have no idea why I didn't think to take pics.
Sorry. Duh.

You can use any size zippers you want,
depending on however big or small you want
your purse. Just make sure they are all the same size.
You can also use as many as you want.
I used 7 to do this purse.
I think mine were 9" zippers.

So, after you get them all sewn together,
just fold them over (right sides together) and
sew up the side. Unzip one of the zippers
to now turn right side out. You're done.
Easy as that.

Perfect size for her little hands.
Have I ever mentioned that my little lady
has freakishly good hand eye coordination?
I have no doubt she can already maneuver
these zippers at the age of 1.
I think she's gonna love it.

nook storage pouch

Check out the storage pouch I made for my cousin's Nook:
It fits like a glove and she said she loves it.
She just throws it in her purse and doesn't have
to worry about it getting scratched or dirty.

 This was EASY!
Basically just take the measurements,
add some length and width for the seam allowance,
sew together,
turn right side out,
sew up the sides.
I took all the pictures for the tutorial.
If you're interested let me know,
I'll go back and post it.

This almost makes me want to buy an
electronic book reader.
Do you do electronic or old school?
I'm still old school....
