~Easter Greetings From a Distance~

~HANDMADE EASTER GREETINGS~

We won't be able to spend any time with our extended family this Easter....
social distancing is especially hard on holidays.

We wanted to send an Easter greeting and this is what my little lady created for them.

It kept her busy for an entire afternoon which was an added bonus.

She bought this Postcard Book at the Girl Scout store last year with her cookie credits.
We tucked it away back then and forgot all about it until we went digging around for materials we could use to make these!

We sent them out yesterday.
I hope they all enjoy receiving them as much as we did making them.

Happy Easter!
Hope you all stay safe and healthy.

~personalized memory game for kids~

Do you remember the game "Memory"?
When I was a kid it was my favorite.
I remember the year us kids got a game for
Christmas.....I could spend hours playing that
and I did. In fact, I ended up playing it alone
many times because I couldn't get any of
my siblings to play it as often as I wanted to.

My kids love it too.
I saw this idea on someones blog awhile ago.
I wish I could remember who's blog it was so
I could give them credit but I can't find it.
I finally got around to making it for my kids
for Valentines Day this year.
We had a couple different Memory game sets
so I took one of them and covered them with our own
pictures. I'm telling you right here at the beginning......
this is not a quick project.
It's easy, but VERY time consuming.
I worked on it, on and off for about 3 weeks.
First thing you need to do is pick the photos you want to
use and print them up. I printed them from my
computer onto card stock. I printed a wallet size.
You have to remember to print TWO of each.
Once you get your pictures printed, you will need
to use a card to trace around the part of the
picture you will be cutting. This is what takes so long.
Cutting them out......woof.

Once you get them cut out you'll go ahead
and mod-podge them onto your memory cards.
Once it dries, go ahead and put a layer of
mod-podge over the top of the photos to seal them.
That's it.
Let them dry and stack em up!

I will say, this is one of those projects
that I knew the SECOND my kids opened it.....
that it was worth every minute of time I put into it.
They loved it!
We have so much fun remembering the moments
captured on the cards as we are playing.

~memory book with old valentines~

Are you one of those people who saves cards
for sentimental reasons but you never
really know what to do with them other
than stash them in a box?
 If so....here's an idea
for a Valentine or anniversary gift.

Each year I try to top the Valentine I made the year prior.
After nearly 20 years of this, it's getting difficult and I'm
running out of ideas and energy. Last year I
couldn't figure out what to make for Valentines so
I got to looking thru all the Valentines we've
exchanged over the years as inspiration.
Yes......we have kept them in a little box along with
other cards and letters we've exchanged thru the
years. After that much time, it's become
quite a collection. Rather than make a Valentine
for him last year, I decided to make a memory book
with all of the Valentines we have exchanged over
the past 19 years. This is how it turned out.
I used this hand made binder that my aunt (who's really
my 2nd cousin) gave us a couple years ago .
It's made from wood that she stained and constructed
herself. This was just the project I was waiting
for to fill this monogrammed binder!

I gathered up all of the Valentines we've exchanged
over the years and put them in chronological order.
I bunched a few of them together and tied with
ribbon or tulle and placed that in pockets I
sewed onto the page (cardstock).
Each page is a little different and you could
design them to your liking.
This folks, is the first Valentine I ever made him.
19 years ago......1994. We were so poor and the only
supplies I had were pictures, yellow legal paper,
crayons, tape and pink toilet paper (remember when they
used to make colored toilet paper?). I think they
stopped making it because it turned out the dyes
in it were a bit too "harsh" for some people's
who ha's and nether regions.

I decorated some of the "pockets" with smaller sized
Valentines I'd made. If the Valentine was double sided
I made a color copy of the back in order to see
both sides and the message.
Once I had the pages done, I put them in thick
plastic page protectors so the cards won't fall out.
I always make my Valentines and write a simple
message. My husband on the other hand, buys
the most beautiful, sappy and love sick card
he can find......and I absolutely love it!

Another way to display them is to place them
on your cardstock and make a slit in the page
protector to slide the card thru. That way you
can actually open the card and see the message.

For those years when we had a long distance
relationship and had to mail our Valentines....
I used the actual envelope as the pocket and stuck
that right to the cardstock with a bunch of
Valentines in it.  As you can see, I also scattered
a few pictures of us together througout the years.
It's a bit thick and bulky but it's just fine for where it
sits, on display in our window ledge.

I will add a page to it each year with our Valentines.
You know what that means now......
I gotta figure out what the heck type of Valentine
to make this year.

~personalized book for kids-gift idea~

Back in September I discovered a free photo book
offer at Shutterfly again. GREAT!
Problem was, it ended that night.
I couldn't let a free photo book offer go to waste
so I decided to throw a book together that
I'd been wanting to do for awhile.
I took pictures of my son's favorite toy
"doing things" throughout the day while
he was at school and made it a story.
It was actually a lot of fun coming
up with ideas for the pages.
Once I got the pictures, I plugged them into the
book and the story just took off.
Disclaimer: the pics are NOT the greatest quality.

 My son LOVED it!
I gave it to him for his birthday.
The next day when I took him to school he said,
"I told MACK to do a few things while I'm at school."
Seriously? This is definitely my kid......

Total time it took to make this book,
including taking the pictures, was only 1.5 hours.
For those of you looking for a fun, personalized
gift for that kid on your Christmas list,
this is your GOLDMINE!
Easy, affordable (even if it's not free)
and something they'll remember forever......
because COME ON-
when you were a little kid
didn't you think your toys played and did
things when you were gone?
I sure did.

~gift for the writer or journaler~

For those of you looking for inexpensive but
meaningful and useful gift ideas this holiday
season, I think this is a good one for the
person who journals.

This little journal was a gift I gave my son's
teacher for her wedding last month.
I don't know her very well and I don't
know how she decorates so I felt this was
a safe gift. I figured even if she doesn't journal
she could use it for a notebook in her purse
or household. Luckily-she loved it and said
she does journal. I received a very nice journal
from a dear friend for my 30th birthday
and to this day it's been one of my favorite gifts.

How are y'all coming along with your
Christmas shopping? Do you have a ton
of projects to finish? I have a fair amount
to bust out.....most seem like they should
be simple but things tend to take longer
than I anticipate. It's mostly jewelry that
needs made-thank heavens it's something
I LOVE to do. I never tire of making jewelry.
I especially love to make jewelry pieces
for those I love.....I like to put a little
personal touch into each piece.
Next up I'll be sharing a ring I made (by accident)
and a necklace that someone made
especially for me :)
The most time consuming of my projects.....
photo books and calendars.
I love making them but they are sooooo
time consuming.
However, worth every single minute put into them.

If anyone knows of any free photo book offers
right now-LET ME KNOW!
Usually I find some before now and I still
haven't seen any this holiday season.
